THE TASK

Set in Detroit, Low Winter Sun tells the story of a cop who finds himself exploring the underworld of the city he calls home. As the sole graphic designer on the AMC televised series, I was responsible for realizing the Production Designer’s vision through the creation of in-scene signage and graphic set decor.

THE DESIGN PROCESS

I worked closely with the Production Designer, Art Director, Prop Master, Set Decorator and Construction Crew in honing in the look of various graphic set pieces and props. To achieve aesthetically accurate original content, I was tasked to go out through Detroit and document real-world art and signage to inform the looks of various decor pieces that felt like they were extensions of this unique city.

Final Thought

My time with Low Winter Sun allowed me to experiment and explore as a designer. With Detroit acting as one of the key characters in the series, I was honored to work alongside so many skilled crew members and local vendors to bring our version of the city to life on screen.
